Special Retreats at Calvary

Through prayer and gazing upon an icon image, Sr. Jeanne will speak of the icon as a personal meeting with whom it represents. Icons (sacred art images displayed extensively in eastern Christian churches and becoming more popular in the west) are filled with rich symbolism and usually consider a visual representation of scriptures or the saints. All participants using carbon paper will prayerfully trace the sacred image of a saint to help us enter into the experience of icons. Come and observe how these great prayers – icon images are written and find new insight by beholding the holy gaze of these great art images of our Church.

About Presenter: Sr. Jeanne Girardin, SSCh, a Sister of St. Chretienne has served in many ministries over 57 years including education and pastoral ministry among the Cree population of Alberta, Canada. She has a Masters Degree in Religious Studies and is a certified Catholic Chaplain specializing in mental health and addiction rehab. Sr. Jeanne is a member of Contemplative Outreach, LTD. and a presenter on Centering Prayer.

Weekend will explore the ways we understand the spirituality of human health. Includes reflections on wholeness for the planet and for people from Thomas Berry and other mystics for our time.
